This is the part where I start implementing my research and planning to create my song.

First steps for implementing research plan

The few steps I took to put my research and plan into action was to actually get the motivation to start on the project. Before starting to create a melody, I needed a message to make my song about, a genre and a scale to stick to. I decided to go with the idea of heartbreak or more specifically a girl letting a guy down as I knew from listening to a lot  of songs that that is a topic that many people can relate to. With this I was able to choose the generic genre of pop music and stick to a minor scale as that reflects sadness and so, the initial and easiest phase was complete. Making the song was going to be hard and so I tried following the plan I created to start constructing a melody I could work with and from there I needed to continue with my project and develop it into the music software.

Materials

If not mentioned previously, the song I made consisted of original lyrics which was sung by me and a melody created by piano and strings on a digital software. I didn't use an actual instrument due to the fact that I don't actually play an instrument professionally and so it would be too difficult in the time period to learn how to play an instrument fluently to then be able to make a melody with it. The other material I need is my laptop and the musical software to compensate my lack of instrument-playing skill and for this project I chose a very basic website called Soundtrap which worked perfectly for beginners like me.

Actions taken to develop product

Making a song is definitely not something I could achieve in the first attempt. After many failed attempts of trying to find a good melody for the chorus and verses, I stuck to one and continued to develop it through piano notes on the software. From this basis, I was able to create more melodies for the pre-chorus and bridge sticking to one scale which made sure my notes weren't all over the place and so they resonated the same emotion of heartbreak. When creating the bridge section, I had ,what I though at the time, a great idea for a melody however after going with it for a while, I realised that there were possibly better melodies that I haven't yet thought about and thus I had to develop my song further.

Obstacles faced

There were of course many obstacles faced during making the song that I knew were coming but I still had to persevere to make song as I had put a lot of faith into this and I couldn't fail at the end. One major challenge I encountered was actually sticking to a melody that I could work with. This was the case as after thinking of a melody, I usually got distracted by some other existing song and so I lost the tune but i did manage to counter this by recording each and every draft version of a melody on my phone so that I could always refer back to them. Another hardship which was there was the fact that sometimes the software didn't execute the command I wanted and thus I had to alter huge parts of the song. This got a bit tiresome but through understanding the software better in time, I was able to adjust myself and create a song that I was really proud of.

This is the image of the final product on the software which shows the strings and piano on the first 2 lines and voice on the next two line. From this I downloaded the audio file and made it into a YouTube video by adding some lyrics to it in another software.
