This is the beginning of my project which started in the end of MYP 4 and I was still a bit nervous of the whole idea of a personal project as I was told by other older kids that it was a lot of work besides the actual making of the product.

The initial inquiry question

My initial inquiry question was about what it takes to make a good song however that wasn't specific enough as I needed a clear goal to work towards so I tweaked it to mention how the song should project a message and that was going to be about heartbreak.

The Global Context

The global context of personal and cultural expression was the most fitting for my project as this was about me trying to represent a not necessarily personal, but an overall complex feeling of heartbreak through song.

Research

From this, I had to research thoroughly on key components to make a successful song and by using a variety of sources such as books, interviews and videos, I was able to know much more than before about creating a song. The research was crucial as I was able to accumulate a plethora of tips and tricks to not only be able to start making a song, but to make it somewhat listenable.

Obstacles faced

Some hardships I faced was managing my time efficiently to balance this work and other things I wanted to get done, especially since the bulk of this was completed in the summer holidays. This was tackled by me creating a plan for myself which was a criterion strand in itself but it also allowed me to better manage myself. Another obstacle I encountered was working my way through understanding which sources to use and which to not. I found this challenging as there was a lot of great information I could use for my research however I couldn't utilise some as they might have been unreliable. I overcame this by assessing each source for its origin, purpose, values and limitations and with this I was able to know for certain which sources were reliable and which weren't.
